Rebels' Roost Candle Care & Burn Guide
Thank you for choosing a Rebels' Roost container candle. Each one is hand-poured with love on our farm. To ensure you get the longest, cleanest, and safest burn from your tin candle, please follow these simple steps.
-
The "memory burn" is the single most important instruction for container candles.
The first time you light your candle, allow the wax pool to melt completely to the edge of the tin.
Why? Beeswax has a memory. If you extinguish the flame too early, the candle will tunnel down the center on all subsequent burns, leaving wax stuck to the sides (wasting fuel).
Note: This may take 2 to 4 hours for a wide tin candle.
-
Trimming the wick will give you a clean burn, preventing soot and a tall, dancing flame.
Before every burn, gently trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (6mm). You can use scissors or simply pinch off the dark, spent tip when the wax is cool.
Trimming prevents the flame from growing too large, which can cause excessive heat, smoking, and soot buildup on the tin.
-
Container candles are convenient, but proper placement and storage are key.
Safety: Always burn the candle within sight and away from anything flammable. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
The Tin: Place the tin on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Do not move the tin while the wax is liquid.
Storage: Since your candles are made with natural beeswax, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent melting or discoloration.
-
When to stop using the candle.
Instruction: Discontinue use when only 1/4 inch (6mm) of wax remains at the bottom of the tin.
Why? This prevents the tin itself from overheating and potentially damaging the surface underneath.
Reuse: Once cool, the empty tin can be cleaned and reused!
Our Beeswax Blend: Why It Burns Better
Pure beeswax is incredible, but it can be notoriously difficult to burn cleanly in a container. For our tin candles, we use a custom blend of natural beeswax from our apiary and cocosoy wax (made from coconut and soy oils, never paraffin).
This deliberate blend offers the best of both worlds:
Performance: The cocosoy wax ensures a wider, more even melt pool, allowing the flame to consistently reach the edges of the tin and prevent tunneling.
Authenticity: It allows us to keep the integrity and subtle, natural scent of the pure farm beeswax, while delivering the cleanest, longest-lasting burn possible.
